Warm and Soft

These chairs were in the PNE Prize Home. It was also the only one from the house that turned out, and the only part of the house I didn't criticize. They are 4 recliners, in a similair fashion to a sectional couch, in front of an 80" projector screen with surround sound.

I'll be Famous!

a story from my monday

so, through a friend i was a background in a 30 minute tv series pilot, Clean Fight, this past saturday. we all showed up at 6:30 pm, and didn't leave until after midnight. on sunday, received a phone call, asking me to return on monday for some additional scenes, ones of closer shots of the background, and wanted me as some continuity from the previous scenes. awesome.

monday morning. 9:00 am. i haven't been up this early in weeks. 2 pm was becoming fairly normal. but I was going to be famous today. arrive at the set just after 9:30 to wait for the call. there is only ~20 background this day, for a small crowd outside the fighters changing room door. there will be some reporters, groupies, photographers, fans.

we wait outside in the staging area for an hour or so, and this is when they offer us breakfast. french toast, eggs benedict, etc. and it's been sitting out since before i got there. it's the crew's left overs.

another hour or so and they bring out candy and fruit and pop. they apologize for the wait, and mention they only have 2 shots to do until the will need us.

1 pm rolls around, and fetch my book from the car. i'm ready to leave. i expected to be home by now. not trying to amuse myself. this go around, they hand out free admission to mini golf and apologize for the long wait. but that's the way it goes sometimes being a background.

i head to my car to get my sunglasses, and sitting there, i'm ready to drive off and leave my book behind. i realize it now 2 pm, with no end in the wait in sight. i look over back the set, and there is everyone waiting to go in, with my friend waving at me. crap. just my luck. so i walk back. to wait some more. that's right. they're not quite ready. another 15 mins.

when we finally get on set, we all cram around a door and are told what to do, what to expect. with the inward swinging door, the camera was placed off to the one, more open side on the inside looking out at us. cool. then I notice that where i'm standing, there isn't even a backdrop. I had been moved to off camera, behind a 'reporter' who has to stick her mic up and over the lady in the front.

the scene ended up being the only one we had to do that day, and it took all of 45 mins to shoot 5-6 times. we all pushed and crowded forward, we all mimed are screams, waved and groped like pros. but the best i will see of myself, if the show even makes it to air (i have $5 saying it doesn't), is my hand waving over the top of the reporter's head from the side of the doorframe. atleast it was the hand with my Make Poverty History band. hopefully they'll get some airtime.

the most valuable thing i did had nothing to do with the movie. with us all crammed in a little hallway, huddled together waiting for a door to open randomly, it got quite warm and stuffy. so i fanned the group with a large screen between yells of "cut!" and "rolling!"

i didn't end up leaving the set until after 6 pm, but that's another story for another day.

Photographer's Transportation

words. you all want words.

maybe i want words.

i never have much to say out loud.
-----
but fyi, i'm trying to expand my photographic abilities.

these are some of the results.

some are just cropped and some variously edited.

i have taken this on as a new art form for me.

maybe 'cause i'm lazy and painting and drawing take time.

maybe i believe in the old worries that photography will replace them.

i have a feeling though that is not true. it hasn't happened yet.

i will return full cycle, back to drawing, painting, abstract, realism.
-----
but language and writings never enter that cycle.

it's not a creative out for me.

and that's what this was for, this 'blog' - just another canvas.
-----
i've never kept a journal for a consistant time.

when i did, i used crayons, pencils, pictures all over the page.

it was for thoughts. like most writings.

and i don't share my thoughts well.

i didn't get taught that in kindergarden.

weird web we weave

Raymi the Minx, blogoddess. and me, on Px.

it's always funny where you're blog will pop up. i'm linked on a few other people's blogs, people i've never talked to, met, etc before in my life. and then there are some links from fraternity brother's blogs. and then there are web searches.

MSN.com: "nuetering"

I'm #6. I think it's my best post. ever.

ps: can I copyright that term, "blogoddess"? i did come up with it on my own, just now, for this post. but the usual google shows it's already in use out there.

lil' cars

i get bored sometimes, and people challenge me to do things. so i made these.

and people tell me to write more about my pictures. so i wrote that.

more, i need more.

to those who are blind, or don't scroll down very far, i've been updating the link section lately. if you have anything to add, feel free to email it to me. or leave it in the comments.
anything really. have a blog? a photoblog? a favorite news source? a good flash comic? do it. leave it. i'll add it. do it.

f to the u to the c-k

so with the CBC lockout going on, i don't get my daily news update sent to my e-mail. i noticed this because i thought i'd share some with you, the readers, but i had no new mail. so this post should be extra special. i had to go out and find the news myself. now, i never share the usual bad news with you people. i want to share some off-the-beaten-path stuff, things that aren't front page material. so today i share something that may impact our future in an unsuspecting way, and something you journalists or authors may enjoy. sure beats car bombs or self-igniting old women, too.

first Google Image result

hold on. what the fuck. i thought i'd be risqué by putting up the first result, no matter what it ended up being, without looking first. and this is what i get. lame. and cool. she is cute. but for those, like me, who would rather get a quick look at a cheap porn picture, here ya go. pervert ;)

How We Got Screwed on Terasen Deal
by Rafe Mair

...
We are quickly moving to the place where American needs for oil, gas and water will trump our needs for the same. Moreover, the environmental problems this will raise will be ours not theirs and the profits not ours but theirs too.

We have taken a Canadian company that controlled the natural gas we use and turned it over to a foreign owner to use what should be our profits, public profits, to build American pipelines from the tar sands to America

Living on the Hundred-Mile Diet
By Alisa Smith and J.B. MacKinnon
...
For the average American meal (and we assume the average Canadian meal is similar), World Watch reports that the ingredients typically travel between 2,500 and 4,000 kilometres, a 25 percent increase from 1980 alone. This average meal uses up to 17 times more petroleum products, and increases carbon dioxide emissions by the same amount, compared to an entirely local meal.

Let's translate that into the ecological footprint model devised by Dr. William Rees of UBC which measures how many planets'-worth of resources would be needed if everyone did the same. If you had an average North American lifestyle in every other way, from driving habits to the size of your house, by switching to a local diet you would save almost an entire planet's worth of resources (though you'd still be gobbling up seven earths).

CBGB-OMFUG

Court ruling helps punk venue CBGB cling to life
The legendary CBGB is clinging to life after a court ruling Wednesday.

Manhattan Civil Court Judge Joan M. Kenney ruled the club does not owe its landlord back rent and declined a request to evict the landmark punk venue.

In her decision, Kenney called the famed New York club a "pillar of the community" and an anchor to a renaissance of the surrounding Bowery neighbourhood, which had been plagued by "destitution, degradation and substance abuse" when founder Hilly Kristal opened the club's doors in 1973.

yeah, I can keep wearing my t-shirt!

from CBGB.com:
The question most often asked of me is, "What does CBGB stand for?"
I reply, "It stands for the kind of music I intended to have, but not the
kind that we became famous for: COUNTRY BLUEGRASS BLUES."
The next question is always, "but what does OMFUG stand for?" and I say
"That's more of what we do, It means OTHER MUSIC FOR UPLIFTING
GORMANDIZERS." And what is a gormandizer? It's a voracious eater of,
in this case, MUSIC. - Hilly Kristal, Owner
