Mr. Comedian

Jose

Another party shot from last week. something about this shot seems off. i didn't want to post it, but i'd rather go to bed and read than redo it. besides, i bought some new (to me) books today. i'll think i'll start with Heat Engines: A First Text Book, 4th Ed. (1957) by A.C. Walsahw Ph.D., M.Sc., D.I.C. (something i want after my name...wait, it could just BE my name), A.C.G.I., M.I.Mech.E.

I should really catch up with the times. P-dawg's birthday was on tuesday, and the party is saturday. some more, and hopefully good, photos should arise from this. i have a feeling nudity and a fire hydrant may be involved.

Mr. Party Himself?

The Party Has Arrived

Last week A-train threw a going-away party, and i got to hang with some ol' high school peeps i haven't seen really in the *cough* seven years since grad.

as you can see, the party got out of hand. that would be a respiratory system exercising device. crazy, i know.

Kleenex => Kleercut

Kleercut

KLEENEX Facial Tissue is made from 100 per cent virgin fibre and contains no recycled fibre. Virgin fibre is used in our tissue because it provides the superior softness consumers expect from a premium facial tissue product.

— Kimberly-Clark Kleenex.com website

What's the problem?
Kleenex, one of the most popular brands of tissue products in the world, contributes to the destruction of ancient forests. Its manufacturer, the Kimberly-Clark corporation, has been unwilling to improve its practices, continuing to rely on paper and pulp made from clearcut ancient forest including Canada’s Boreal forest. Kimberly-Clark clears these ancient forests, essential in fighting climate change and providing home to wildlife like caribou, wolves, eagles and bears, into products that are flushed down the toilet or thrown away.

air | girl ratings

one of Earth, Fire, Water and Air.

i met someone tonight that i would classify as 'adorable'. and not to put her up on to high of a pedestal, there are easily other girls i'd give this one-word classification, it's just this one i met and inspired the word. there has only really only been one other girl that i have given such a description, and it was 'fantastic'. currently, 'fantastic' is the highest in now what seems to be a ranking system i'm creating for myself.

now adorable sounds like something you'd call a child, but this is not quite the case. i guess it follows similar requisites - cute, shy-ish, etc. - but i don't mean this as an insult in anyway. it's just that i don't really know her at all, except for an outing in a group of people to a club. i also hope that she doesn't stay pigeon-holed into this group permanently.

personally, i hope she could reach 'fantastic'. maybe that way i would get over the previous holder of the title.

[translation for those at home:
fantastic = almost obsessed of,
adorable = attracted to.
leaving lots of room for more adjectives to be added. wooooo...]

i made sure to get my copy of Matt Good's In A Coma 1995-2005 CD from FutureShop tuesday. i love it! be sure to get the deluxe version, that way you get the dvd and second cd. the second cd has a bunch of re-recorded songs done accoustically, and the rare b-sides. the dvd has all of the past music videos on it. if you hurry, you can still get it for $23. i'm sure in a while it will jump to like $30 or something crazy like that - it is 2 full cds and a dvd.

a Harrison Lake pier

i was out in harrison a couple times last week. once to drop off a resume, the other time a day later for the interview. the job is for bartending, and since i kinda lack in experience in that department, they seem hesitant to hire me. a friend of mine works there, so i do have an in. also, the other serving manager seems to like me (not that way). we had agood chat the first day. the bar manager said he'd call me on tuesday, so i only have to wait another day to hear the news.
i do want to go back some time soon to see the sandcastles too. anyone care to join me for some photo taking and a long slow walk on the beach?

strange thought: i don't know whether to be happy or angry re: black eyed peas playing for the Grey Cup. on one hand, we (the CFL and Canada) are getting bigger and more reputable. but on the other is the canadian content arguement...

NHL, Part II

The Martens family and Harrison

what a waste of a day. sure, i'll get paid $125 but i almost didn't seem worth it by the end of the day. from the constant being told to wait in our seats becuase they were going to be shooting soon, and then them not using us for an hour, to the depriving us of our dinner, it was just silly. there were more than a few people murmering about this was not a good way for the NHL to try and win some fans back. now i know it wasn't them directly, and more the producers, directors, etc., but it still won't look well on the NHL and the 400+ extras a day for 6 or 7 days.

on the up side, i had a great time hanging out with great people for two days.

oh right, i forgot to mention that we didn't get into the shoot on tuesday, but were able wednesday. so tuesday we spent to gether anyways, wasting 12 hours as if we were in the shoot. we did lunch at earl's, hung at the martens' residence, played an awesome game on monopoly, had beans and weiners for dinner, and went to the cheap movies and saw transporter 2. don't see it. trust me.
and i won monopoly. it's now in writing. and you can trust this source of ... media?

here is another's take on the day.

and here is a local news article.

to those of you who noticed some of the experimental changes going on, bare with me. i'm just trying to learn all the code required to do what i want. but think, you got a sneak peek of what it will look roughly like.

and to the one person who managed to sneak a comment in there while i was working, i don't like you. just kidding.

the page will be more like a photoblog than its current form. look for a more plain look, a white background, and larger pictures. the only problem is blogger doesn't have a template for a photoblog or anything even close, so it's something i have to try and do without being a web developer. but i'm getting there.

anyone out there able to help?

NHL, Part I

Giese, me, and Andrea

so i did one day of the NHL commercial shoot and i'm glad that was all i did.
but i'll rant later, i have to go and get booze and then play cards.

I'm thinking of changing the format/template of the site. Any requests? I'm thinking bigger pictures... what do any of you think?

The Politics Of Taking Responsibility
President Bush has taken responsibility for government failures regarding the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.

Why? Because in politics that’s what you do when your numbers are in the toilet. Were his approval rating in the 60’s or 70’s I doubt he would have taken responsibility. And let’s also not forget that his approval rating was sliding prior to the hurricane. It will be interesting to see if this helps relieve some of the pressure that his administration has been under, primarily because of the war in Iraq. That, after all, is the primary reason for Bush ever increasing unpopularity.

wolfie

this one's for you, Erin. it's not that bad. i'm going to have to go to my neighbour's house. when i was mowing the lawn yesterday i saw a lot of big spiders, bigger than i have noticed kicking around here. have you seen this blog: Spiders, insects & other pics this guy's way better than me at the insect shots. he also has better equipment, even if it's homemade and jerry-rigged.
and no, i don't know Soul Coughing. i only started listening to Mike as you seemed to be quite supportive of him, and i liked what i heard, which is only Haughty Melodic.

And Brave New World..... the ending.... i dunno. i'm pretty sure i was taught somewhere in my years of english schooling, you're not supposed to end a story like that.

also, i'm gonna be an extra today in a NHL commercial being filmed here in the 'wack. i dunno what's really happening, but they're paying me $125 for 10-12hrs. there should be some good pictures coming from the few days, i can feel it. and not just bugs. maybe some of the vw variety though.

Summer's End

I forgot to post this earlier. Still good, still good. Just a little tardy, still good.

a change of subject

Spider's Lunch

i decided i's stop boring you all with car pictures, and show you what i had been shooting lately. i wanted to test out the clarity and close-up capability of the camera. but then i also decided that the picture would likely bother the more squeamish of the audience, so i played with the picture a bunch to take the realness away. but i forewarn you, i went autocrossing on saturday and therefore i will be posting more pictures of cars. don't worry, there's lots more spiders in reserve. and i'll update on the racing with the pictures.

and some news, as i have been lacking in days past. and this concerns me, and it should you.

vintage racer

Brain Meakings - Datsun 510

went racing on the weekend at mission. and by that, i mean a friend went racing and i helped a bit. friday was a long day of practice sessions and me doing the paper work and checking tires. the rest of the weekend i was corner working with meta at turn 8/9. i enjoyed the work, but some of the people are really weird. i'm glad Jo was there from ice racing to keep me sane. there was also a girl there my age, who only made it out sat. as she was sick sunday. it was nice to see i'm not the only twenty-something doing this.
as for the team, they qualified 5th after the two sessions, but broke the oil pump in the 2nd qualifying session sunday morning. they got it fixed, only to have it break again during the race. when it happened, Gary was running second overall (1st in class) with less than 10 mins left in the 30 minute race.
the weather changed all day keeping all of us on our toes. sometimes it was quite wet, but then it would dry out just in time for it to sprinkle again.
i think i will do this again a few times before the season's out. there are a few races down in seattle and two more here in mission. it something i enjoy, i just have to get over some of the people, or infiltrate their little clique.

sara and i

Sara came to town this weekend, and i finally got to see her. her and i were greta frineds before my life in edmonton. i used to skip night class and go to her place instead. on those nights we'd watch ally mcbeal and sara would give me a manicure. hanging out with her probably impacted my life more that a lot of closer friends. i still tell people that the day i saw chocolat changed my life. i grew an affinity for choclate and johnny depp. i saw this movie with sara and her sister, in the theater. when i told her this the other day, she jokingly asked if i had something to tell her - was i gay? we laughed. nope. just in touch i guess with a lot of aspects of human life. sure, i like shopping, i knit, and know whether a guy is hot or not, but i also watch football, work on cars, drink beer, and can be slightly sexist towards women.
anyways, she moved away shortly after i did from chilliwack to port mcneil on the northern tip of van isl. and i always missed her trips back for visits. last time i saw her ethan was a tiny baby. now he's potty trained.
our visit was some what short, as it was late and she had to leave bright and early in the morning. but it ws nice to catch up. there was others in the room, so we never got to really share in depth stories like we used to. but some day we'll sit around and eat chocolate, watch johnny or ally, and i'll hear all about having a kid. and she'll hear about druncken antics in the great white north.

it does end this weekend, therefore, you should try and get there and see it. it's always a good time. and there's a Croc's shoe distributor there. $30-50 will get you some of the lightest, most comfortable shoes out there. sure, there not all the great looking, but look what those dutch have been calling shoes for all these years. and if you needed another reason to buy them, they are made in Canada. personally, i'm waiting 'til spring to get some of the new line. i got a sneak preview, hehehehe...

Princess Crystal

Last summer and Amanda's return

This summer and my going away

A couple old photos, but I feel appropriate given I got a visit from my great friend Crystal and her friend Janelle. It was great to see them pull up. I ran outside sans shoes, and hugged her 9 times in 10 minutes. It was just fantastic to see someone here from Edmonton again. I guess James may be back soon for Oasis...
Anyways, they were on their way through town - Destination: Tofino. We hit up Cultas Lake with Amy in tow late at night and burned a few things. Crysatl finally broke up with her guy, and needed some forgetting. Then we finished the night with So I Married an Axe-Murderer. I put them up in the guest house motorhome.
They were of this afternoon after a round of showers, trying to catch the 3:45 ferry. I think they made it. I haven't heard otherwise. Though they did text me to find them as cheap hotel on the 'net.
I hope they stop by again on their way back. Or I may see them S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night! in Van if I can make it out. Or I may end up going back to Ed with them... Either way, I miss hanging with Crystal. And she could use some good company these days. Apparently, no one is left in Edmonton. All she has is loser ex-bf, and he threw a bottle at her last time they were together... And she needs a roomate. And has a HUGE widescreen TV.

Start your engines

not my photo, I'll have some after the weekend

I went working on a friends race car Tuesday night. Man, it was good to be back in a shop with a car, even though I didn't do much more than bleed the brakes and do some wiring. This is also where I'll be all weekend, Friday through Sunday. The car hasn't been out all year, and has had the motor rebuilt, etc. so Friday is going to be a light testing day. Practice, qualifying, and racing goes on all through Saturday and Sunday, and I'll have the best seat in the house - from some random corner, standing while waiving flags. No working on the car for me. I'll be corner working. And that means being ready at the track for 8am. this is gonna kill me.
