Excuses

my excuses: i ended up gettig back a little late on Sunday to post anything, and then i was lazy, the dog ate my homework, then the third night the power went out in one good wind storm, then i was just tired. so finally the guilt got to me, and here you go. pictures.

I live in an amazing provence. I takes less than 4 hours to go from sea to rain forest to desert to the Rocky Mountains. From the world's smallest city to the biggest truck, I got to see it all the past weekend.

I'm leaving for Fernie today. A little ro-ad trip with Killer to pick up a Datsun 610. This way, he too can have a Datsun like everyone should. This of course, if he didn't already own posess a '60s pick up. But it could might as well be mine. or yours. Or that really pissed off guy somewhere you used to own a '82 Nissan truck... umm... nevermind.
And becuase I'll be gone, I'll throw up Sunday's picture too for you all to enjoy. I took a walk around the block and backyard today. the weather turned out fantastic, and anything was better than the forecasted rain. I mowed 3 sets of lawns in the last day and a half, as well as limed half of that. I've never walked so much in a back and fore motion before. I should have brought a pedometer with me.

Martin calls an end to the Tea Party
After 15 years of ethnically influenced rock, Canadian band the Tea Party is splitting up.

Jeff Martin, seen here at the 2003 SARS relief concert in Toronto, has announced his band the Tea Party is splitting up. (file photo)

In a statement, singer and band frontman Jeff Martin announced the band was "parting ways for the foreseeable future."

"I am deeply appreciative of all the support Tea Party fans have shown both the band and me over the years," said Martin, who has moved to Ireland with his family and is working on his solo career.

"While I'm not ruling out a return of the Tea Party at some time in the future, I am focused for now on my acoustic solo record, and hope to release the new music this winter and tour in support of it."

it's too bad really. especially since i only saw them in concert once. he's an amazing musician (and the other band members too), and i will really expect grand things from this solo project.

Poles | Smallville

Telephone Poles

this "style" i figured out my accident, and i kinda dig it - and it's not just an oil paint filter or something. but it looks that way, but i find it looks smoother, softer. let me know what you think.

I also finally watched the first 2 episodes of Smallville yesterday. let me say, it's gonna be a good season! Clark and Lana? again? we know it's not meant ot be.. why are they dragging us through more of this again!? and I don't think we'll seem him at university for a while, but who knows. and on a similiar note: wtf?

Playing at the Track

The 'strip

sunday was the last race of the year. the last. of the year... i guess the wait for ice racing will only be a short 3.5 months which will include some frantic car prepare.

i managed to be awake and at the track for the 8am workers' meeting, and was spent the day at Turn 1 (T1). Being the long weekend, attendance was skimpy - drivers and workers. With that, there was only a couple workers at each turn, and not that many photo worthy cars. But then again, i was too busy anyways.

i debated going over breakfast, and the final argument to myself that made me go was this: this is who i am, who i want to be. So to the track i went. i met some more great workers, one who should be at ice racing too this year, as well as spent time talking to Andy from Specialty Engineering. he builds some of the best race cars in the Pacific NW. he just broke the track record at Portland for his class (GT1) in his own car. and a car he built broke the GT3 record at Mission on Sunday, the car and driver's first time there.

This is what I want to do. But how do I get there?

Rainy Days

Rainy Day

Fall really is upon us here in the valley. it has been raining a bunch lately, and isn't supposed to really stop until after the weekend. I managed to squeeze in mowing the lawns, and everything looks better when it's covered in rain. i love the rain. it really is home. people thought i was weird for liking the rain in Edmonton. they thought it was even stranger when i could predict when it was going to rain. the fresh smells, the clean feeling.

Moon | Scarf

Tree Silouette

what can i say, i love moon/cloud shots. I seem to take them every night i have my camera out with me. why i take more is beyond me, they all look the same. excpet this time a tree ran and got in the way as you can see.

also, yesterday my sister and i hit up Michela's the craft store and we both bout thing to start new projects. her, some yarn and a pattern book so she can crochet an afghan. i said she picked it so she never really has to finish it. she can just blame never being done on the fact the size could be HUGE, but in reality, it's really tedious and boring to make.

i on the other hand bought some "Thick & Quick" (Melissa said it was the perfect yarn for a guy) yarn so i can make me self a fashionable scarf. something i've wanted since moving to edmonton. funny i get one now, the first winter in four years i won't have to spend there. for the keeners playing along (*cough* Sara... *cough*), the MC is Denim 114 with Fisherman 099 (off-white), K2 P2 ribbing, 22 sts wide. should be fairy long, with some stripe of an undetermined variety. i'm at the point of starting them, and they're driving me bonkers. how many? how wide? do i want the whole thing striped? or just a couple, then a space, and a couple more... ahhh!!!

hockey's back

heeeeeeere's Johnny!!!!

I can't believe I didn't post anything about hockey being back. i guess it really was too much for words though. very overwhelming and all, with all the teams playing all on the same night. and the canucks winning. and Sundin getting hurt.

It will all sink in today when that spectacular song from the heavens plays at 4 and 7pm.

CBC: Hockey Rules!
And it's little coincidence that the hardmen on the CBC's negotiating team quickly folded their tents and settled with the union with the imminent return of Don and Ron.

Because Hockey Night in Canada - the Saturday night staple of Canadians' TV watching habits that went missing during the long NHL lockout - is one of the few programs that is wildly popular with a huge part of the Canadian population.

The Coach's Corner segment, featuring the legendary Don Cherry and his straight man Ron MacLean, often has higher ratings than the hockey game itself. Love him or hate him, millions of Canadians can identify with the man they call Grapes and his refreshingly conservative views of the world.

Of course, CBC brass hate Cherry for it. Several times they have tried to muzzle him or get rid of the former Boston Bruins coach.

But they can't. Ordinary Canadians would not put up with an action so cynically and blatantly political.

More importantly, Hockey Night in Canada advertisers, who pump $50 million onto the CBC's bottom line each year to support all its politically correct programming that nobody watches, would also likely kick up a major fuss.

Plain and simple, the CBC came to its senses and settled with its workers in time to get Hockey Night in Canada back on the air tonight.

just playing around with some filters and thought i'd show you all. i know, they're kinda hard to see when they're that small... not to mention, they lose some of their detail too when they're reduced like that, making the filter seem less significant. booo....
